Another great place to visit is Bobcaygeon, which is located on the Trent Severn Waterway and home “to Bigley Shoe & Clothing” a landmark around here with so many shops and shoes!! Enjoy a drink on a patio while soaking in the summer sun, all just a short walk from the canal.

With The Kawartha Highlands Provincial Park and Algonquin Provincial Park in our area you can enjoy solitude, tranquillity and dark night skies while camping under the stars. Try winter camping for a different type of experience. Like most parks in Ontario, there is no shortage of animal life, rugged rolling landscape and small lakes for you to explore.

Petroglyphs Provincial Park about 30 minutes west of Buckhorn is the largest known concentration of Aboriginal rock carvings (Petroglyphs) in Canada, depicting turtle, snakes, birds, humans and more; this sacred site is known as “The Teaching Rocks” There is a Learning Place Visitors Centre where you can discover the traditions of the Ojibwa (Nishnaabe) people through the teachings of the medicine wheel. You can also visit McGinnis Lake that has a bright blue/green colour that is unique to this area because of the limestone bottom and is one of only a handful of meromictic (layers of water that don’t intermix) lakes in Canada. This park is also home to Ontario’s only lizard the Five-lined Skink.
